At AEW, we take the privacy of our children, families, and whānau seriously. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect about you and your child, how we use it, and the rights you have under the Privacy Act 2020.
- Purpose
This policy outlines how Autism Experiences Wellington Trust (AEW) manages personal and sensitive information in accordance with New Zealand legislation, including the Privacy Act 2020.
It ensures that information is collected, stored, and used responsibly and transparently, in line with our Trust Deed and the Level 3 Social Sector Accreditation Standards issued by Te Kāhui Kāhu (Social Services Accreditation, Ministry of Social Development). - Scope
This policy applies to all AEW staff, volunteers, and contractors who collect or access personal information as part of their role. - Principles
- Personal information is only collected when necessary for enrolment, safety, or service delivery.
- Access is limited to authorised people and used solely for AEW purposes.
- Data is kept secure and retained only for as long as necessary.
- AEW responds promptly to requests for access to or correction of personal information.
- Any data breaches are managed in accordance with the Privacy Act 2020
4. Roles and Responsibilities
- The AEW Chair acts as Privacy Officer and oversees compliance with this policy.
- Volunteers must follow AEW procedures and complete privacy induction.
- Trustees are ultimately responsible for ensuring safe and lawful management of personal data.
5. Compliance
This policy supports Autism Experiences Wellington Trust (AEW) to meet its legal and governance obligations.
6. Review
This policy will be reviewed every two years or earlier if there is a change in legislation or practice.
